Tracy Poindexter was posthumously inducted into Altavista High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inaugural Class on February 5th, 2022.

​

Poindexter graduated from Altavista in 1979. He is known for the basketball career and outdoor track career that he had at Altavista. Poindexter is the 1st Player at Altavista to have scored 2,000 points and ended his career with 2,258 Career Points, the 2nd Most Points scored in school history.

He holds the school record in track for the Triple Jump and the Long Jump. Poindexter competed in AAU Track and Field Events held throughout the United States. In 1977, he placed third in the AAU Track and Field Events held in Nebraska. 

 

Poindexter continued his basketball career at Concord University. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Concord University in 2008. Tracy's legacy still lives on at Altavista High School. In 1991, the Tracy H. Poindexter Award was created in his honor. Each year, this award is given to one senior student-athlete who participates in three sports, in good academic standing and has a positive attitude.
