STACY SHEPARD STEWART

Stacy Shepard (Stewart) was inducted into Altavista High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inaugural Class on February 5th, 2022.

​

Shepard graduated from Altavista in 2004. She is known for the basketball career that she had at Altavista. Shepard is a member of the 2,000 point club ending her basketball career with 2,092 points. That 2,092 points made her the 16th player in Virginia to join the 2,000 point club and the 3rd person at Altavista with 2,000 points. Shepard is the first female to score over 2,000 points and till this day she is the only female to score 2,000 points. During her senior year, she averaged 22 points, 22 rebounds, and 1.5 blocked shots per game.

Shepard is a member of the 2004 State Championship Team, the first Girl's Basketball State Championship. She had a 94-14 overall record and a 47-1 district record during her playing career. Shepard received the Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) and Associated Press Player of the Year for the 2003-2004 season. She was 2X District Player of the Year, 4X All-District Selection, 3X All-Region Selection, 2X All-State Selection and 2X Lynchburg News and Advance Player of the Year. Shepard was a 2004 VHSCA All-Star Game Participant. Her Altavista jersey number was retired in 2005.

 

Shepard continued her academic and basketball career at University of North Carolina at Asheville. She received Big South All-Tournament Team Honors, 4x Big South Rookie of the Week, 2007 Big South Tournament Champion, and played in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
